None of us can claim to have perfect lives. We all have our “down” days when we feel weak or unable to cope. Being honest with ourselves means admitting that we’re not strong enough to withstand trouble and adversity without any kind of support. When our batteries are drained, leaning on God’s limitless power gets us through whatever we’re struggling with.
God can use whatever mess we’re in to show us His favor. This is good news, because when we get stuck in a problem and the world turns its back on us, He never will. God easily overpowers issues that are too much for us and strengthens us in the very areas where we’re weak. “‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9, 10, NLT).
Just like us, the apostle Paul was far from perfect. He constantly had to depend on God’s grace to help him overcome his own weaknesses and inadequacies. Despite the mistakes he made, God never let him down. He’ll strengthen us with the same level of grace. “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1).
Life has lots of moving parts, and the possibility of something going wrong is always there. On our own, we can get trapped in perplexing problems that defy our understanding. Despite our best efforts, there’s always that one situation that gets the best of us. Happily, it doesn’t have to be that way, because grace helps us overcome it. “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace” (Romans 6:14).
Believing in the power of grace transforms our thinking and takes a great weight off us. Deep inside, we know we need God’s help. It’s at these moments that He works through others to give us the strength we need. “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble… A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:9, 10, 12, NLT). Whether they’re friends or family, God always puts people in our lives for a reason.
God wants the best for us, and it hurts Him to see us hit a brick wall and not know what to do, so He comes to our rescue. We weren’t created to go through life alone; He delights in sending others who are willing and able to help us through the tough spots. His love shines through people who can give us a different perspective or point of view that leads to a solution we didn’t see ourselves. “Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established” (Proverbs 15:22, NKJV).
This network of people is God’s way of lovingly lifting us up when we fall. The next time we’re blindsided by trouble, accepting help from other believers can release supernatural power to get through it. The results are nothing short of amazing.
